Linda Root is the author of 9 books, including KILLING THE OLD COWBOY: A Pioneertown Murder (The Morongo Murders -Book 3) and 1603:The Queen’s Revenge: The Legacy of the Queen of Scots, Book 3. Root is a former major crimes prosecutor and supervising deputy district attorney in the remote in the Morongo Basin, home of Joshua Tree National Park, the inspiration for the Morong Murder Series.  She had been an amateur historian since childhood and since 2011 has written 6 novels and one historical fantasy set in Tudor-Stuart Scotland and England, and is a member of the Marie Stuart Society.  Currently she is re-writing her 2013 tome, The Last Knight and the Queen of Scotts as three separate novels, and a fourth Morongo crime novel, The Murder Book Murder. The first three books in the series have been marketed locally and will launch to a wider audience in 2026. She is an inactive member of the State Bar of California and a qualified counselor and member of the bar of the United States Supreme Court. In addition to writing, Root travels solo to Germany to visit family there, spends time championing the needs of shelter animals and on projects seeking diversification and transparency in local government, and entertaining at her home overlooking the Joshua Tree National Park which she shares with her rescue dogs and assorted wild things which happen to be passing through, only a few of which are human.
